With over 30 years in the practice of Medicine and 19 years of specialist surgical eye care, Dr (Mrs) Halimatu L. Alimi manages a thriving eyecare establishment that beamed its focus on paediatric Ophthalmology practice 3 years ago, having completed a one-year fellowship training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

The focus on advocacy and action for reducing blindness and visual impairment in children stemmed from the realization that whilst the populace is vastly ignorant about preventive measures to avoid blindness and visual impairment in children, there was also a lack of knowledge and access to care for those afflicted. Moreover, where there is knowledge and access, the realities of financial impediments to the uptake of high-quality surgery by appropriately trained personnel has led to the piling up of visually-disabled children whose visual potentials and by extension, potential life achievements are dwindling by the day.

Dr Alimi hopes to steer Restore Foundation for Child sight in the direction of advocacy for awareness of prevention of blindness and visual impairment and service to restore vision, alignment and proper function to children in a timely manner to optimize their future achievements in life.
