School Eye Health - Adamo, Imota and Oko-Ito Communities
Introduction
In continuation of Restore Foundation’s school eye health intervention in low-fee paying schools scattered around the Ikorodu neighborhoods which serve children from the low socio-economic strata, a planned 3-day outreach to Adamo, Imota and Oko-Ito communities took place from the 19th to 21st July 2023.
These areas are relatively under-developed, with agriculture and petty trade as the main occupation. The roads were in very poor state and often made for extremely difficult motoring in such rough terrain. There is a stark lack of health facilities in these communities.
The Outreach
Qualitative eye care was provided by vision screening for 766 children in 21 Low fee-paying schools under the umbrella of AFED (Association for Formidable Educational Development).
261 eye medications were given free to treat medical eye diseases. 46 pairs of glasses were given free to aid vision and 18 children were identified as needing work up for cataract and squint surgeries.

Restore Foundation will continue to cater to children in disadvantaged communities in its mission to restore vision and alignment to school children to enable optimal participation in academic activities to enable bright future endeavour and the chance to break out of the cycle of poverty.
