School Eye Health - ODI-OLOWO LCDA
Introduction
Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area is one of the thirty-seven additional local government created on October 23rd 2003 by former governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Presently, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA has its boundary to the North of Oworonshoki Apapa Express through flyover by Town Planning to Oshodi on the other side. Its boundary to the south is from the beginning of Agege Motor Road through Ransome Kuti School COMPLEX Road to the other side of Jibowu to Town Planning flyover on Oworonshoki Ibadan Expressway, and to the West by Agege Motor Road to Oshodi flyover. Odi-Olowo/ Ojuwoye L.CDA is characterized with the heavy presence of manufacturing and production industries.
The Outreach
Restore Foundation for Child Sight in collaboration with Odiolowo Ojuroye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) during its health week in November 2023 carried out a School Eye Health programme.
Teacher Training
It commenced with a teacher training workshop on 7th November 2023 in which representative teachers from all 27 primary schools under the LCDA’s jurisdiction were trained in identification of students who require “visual” medical intervention. Each school was given a free vision test kit for continuous usage for vision screening of students at their school.
Subsequently, the Eye Health outreach was done on Wednesday 22nd November 2023 at Kosy Bethel Primary School premises. A total of 347 pupils were identified as having poor vision or eye diseases after being screened by the previously trained school teachers.
Each pupil had their vision tested with a comprehensive eye examination and all necessary investigations done.

One hundred and sixty-six bottles of eyedrops were given to pupils with medical eye pathologies. A total of 72 pairs of glasses were given to pupils with visual impairment due to refractive error. Nine children were referred for work up for surgery. Three eyes with cataract have had surgery free of charge, resulting in restoration of vision. Six squints are in the process of being worked up for surgeries.
Restore Foundation is on a mission to restore vision and proper alignment to students to enable better participation in academic pursuits and improved future attainment in order to break out of the cycle of poverty.
