School Eye Health Outreach: Alimosho LGA
Introduction & Context
Alimosho is the largest and most populous Local Government Area in Lagos State, housing over four (4) million residents.
It is subdivided into several Local Community Development Areas (LCDA). The six sub-divisions created out of the old Alimosho are: Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA, Ayobo/Ipaja LCDA, Alimosho LG, Egbe/Idimu LCDA, Ikotun/Igando LCDA and Mosan Okunola LCDA. The LGA contains the urban area of Egbeda/Akowonjo
Alimosho serves as a key residential and light-commercial hub for the nearby Ikeja commercial district, Alimosho is primarily home to a vibrant working-class population of traders, civil servants, and professionals.
Within this community, thousands of children attend local schools serving low- and lower-middle-income families. For many of these students, undetected vision problems present a quiet barrier to learning and classroom success.
The Outreach
In line with our core mission at Restore Foundation for Child Sight (RFCS)—to enhance educational attainment and unlock future opportunities through improved vision—we facilitated a targeted 4-day School Eye Health Outreach from September 29th to October 3rd, 2025.
This initiative was made possible through our strategic partnership with the Alimosho branches of League of Muslim School Proprietors (LEAMSP) and National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS)
To ensure sustainable community impact, the intervention followed our typical two-phase model:
Capacity Building: School teachers were trained in vision screening, and participating schools were equipped with free vision test kits for ongoing periodic monitoring.
Clinical Outreach: Students flagged during in-school screenings by the trained teachers were brought forward for comprehensive examination and specialized care by our medical team.

Conclusion: Transforming Vision, Transforming Futures
Through this 4-day outreach, 1,049 children received crucial eye care that directly improves their ability to see, learn, and thrive in the classroom. By removing visual impairment as a barrier to education, this intervention provided immediate relief—delivering nearly 800 treatments (glasses and medications)—while embedding long-term screening capacity into 76 local schools.
