School Eye Health Outreach: Kosofe LGA
Introduction & Context
Kosofe is a vibrant and highly commercialized Local Government Area situated in the northern part of Lagos State, with an estimated population of 1.1 million residents. Home to major, densely populated communities such as Ojota, Ketu, Mile 12, Oworonshoki, and parts of Gbagada, Kosofe’s local economy thrives heavily on commercial trading and fish farming.
The municipality hosts approximately 1,200 schools, many of which cater to children from low- and lower-middle-income families. Within these classrooms, undetected vision problems often go unnoticed, creating invisible barriers to learning and academic progress.
The Outreach
In alignment with our mission at Restore Foundation for Child Sight (RFCS)—to enhance educational attainment and open doors to future opportunities through better vision—we executed a focused 2-day School Eye Health Outreach on November 25th and 26th, 2025.
Facilitated in strategic partnership with LEAMSP and NAPPS Kosofe, the initiative deployed a sustainable two-stage model:
Teacher Empowerment & School Kits: Teachers across participating schools were trained to conduct basic vision screenings, and their schools were provided with free vision test kits for continuous, long-term use.
Clinical Outreach & Treatment: Students identified with vision challenges during classroom screenings were brought forward for formal, comprehensive clinical evaluation and treatment by our medical team.

Conclusion: Key Achievements
Through this targeted 2-day intervention, 890 students received the essential eye care needed to fully engage in their education without the handicap of impaired sight. Beyond distributing over 500 free treatments (medications and prescription glasses) and securing surgical pathways for 18 children, the outreach permanently strengthened 63 local schools with trained teachers and permanent vision testing tools.
